Lee's Summit named as Missouri's fifth Bicycle Friendly Community

Thursday the League of American Bicyclists named Lee's Summit as Missouri's fifth Bicycle Friendly Community

Lee's Summit, which has made a major effort to create and implement a citywide trails plan and adopt and implement a citywide Complete Streets Policy, now becomes one of the few cities nationwide to be officially recognized as both a Walk Friendly Community and a Bicycle Friendly Community.

The League's recognition of Lee's Summit was at the Bronze level--meaning the city has made significant progress but still has room for significant further progress--and the League particularly called out the city's efforts in Education and Enforcement as outstanding.

MoBikeFed encourages cities across Missouri to work towards the Bicycle Friendly Community designation.  Working towards the designation helps cities create realistic and well-rounded bicycle plans, programs, and facilities, and receive the recognition they deserve for the work cities, officials, and citizens have done to improve their community.

Over 1.2 million Missourians now live in a community officially recognized in the League's Bicycle Friendly Communities program--a huge increase since 2008, when no Missouri communities were recognized by the program.

Encouraging more Missouri communities to become Bicycle Friendly and Walk Friendly is an important goal in MoBikeFed's Vision for Bicycling and Walking in Missouri.
