Capitol Day 2013: In the News

Capitol Day 2013 and our statewide Bicycle & Pedestrian Award Winners are in the news already.

The award for PedNet founder and now Columbia City Council member Ian Thomas was covered by the Columbia Missourian:

 

Fourth Ward councilman Ian Thomas was among the 14 recipients of an award from the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation.

The Missouri Friend of Bicycle and Walking Award honors Missouri residents who have promoted bicycling and walking in their communities, across the state and nationwide.

“It is very nice to be recognized for your work,” Thomas said.

Thomas is a co-founder of Columbia’s PedNet Coalition, an advocacy group dedicated to promoting healthy, sustainable modes of transportation. PedNet advocates for the creation of a safe network of paths and trails, a comprehensive streets policy and encourages walking and cycling.

 

Tour de Corn in East Prairie was recognized as Event of the Year, covered in the Sikeston Standard Democrat:

 

A local biking event will receive statewide honors today.

The Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation members from around Missouri gather today to honor individuals and events from around Missouri that have made their communities better. East Prairie's Tour de Corn was named the Missouri Bicycle Event of the Year.
