New book of money-saving tips highlights car-free lifestyle features cyclists from MO
Robert & Cia Johnson are prominently featured in this new book of money-saving tips from Clark Howard. Robert is the PedNet Coalition's Director of Consulting Services. Rober & Cia were long-time residents of Columbia, MO, but now live in Chicago.
The book spotlights Robert & Cia's car-free lifestyle and the money they save by making that lifestyle choice. Including their story in a book like this is a great example of how bicycling and walking are becoming more mainstreamed in America culture.
As Howard points out, their exact lifestyle choice may not work for every American, but for those who can make it work, it has some powerful benefits. (And more households are car-free than commonly realized: 8.3% of Missouri households are car-free. But the number of car-free households rises well above 10% in Missouri's urban centers--for example, over 25% of households are car-free in St. Louis--and the number of car-free households is also greater than average in Missouri's smallest towns, those with populations under 2000.)
