Kansas City's Line Creek Trail soon to be 8 miles
Kansas City, Missouri, recently sent this update about the Line Creek Trail--an important regional connection and one of the first major north-south trails in Kansas City north:

Line Creek Trail, a Platte County greenway for walkers and bicyclists that is nearing completion, has received two recent honors. The trail is owned and managed by the City of Kansas City, Mo., and the City of Riverside, Mo. This month it was awarded the 2014 Capstone Award for Infrastructure by the Kansas City Business Journal, and was named a finalist for Public Project of the Year by the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City.
When finished in mid-June, the Line Creek Trail will extend eight miles from the Missouri River north to Missouri Highway 152. About six miles currently are completed. The trail is a mostly 10-foot-wide concrete path that meanders through woods, two small waterfalls and an abandoned campground. A 2,000-foot segment follows the old Kansas City to St. Joe Interurban Railroad bed before winding around the banks of the former Drennon Lake.
The trail provides many helpful connections, including a spur that leads to the Line Creek Community Center and Ice Arena and the Kansas City Northern Railroad in Frank Vaydik Park. A Fixit bicycle service station equipped with an air pump and basic bicycle repair tools is available where the trail crosses 68th Street.
The trail starts at Homestead Park in Riverside just north of Vivion Road, and travels north to Platte Brook Drive. The final Kansas City segment between Barry Road and Platte Brooke Drive will be finished by the end of June. Parking is available at the Line Creek Community Center and at the trailhead at Waukomis Drive and Gower Road.
