MoBikeFed comment: One problem with projects like this is that crossing at 'official' crosswalks at intersections is often harder and more dangerous for pedestrians than the unofficial mid-block crossings that they replace.Construction is set to start Monday on a pedestrian barrier officials say will prevent people from illegally, and dangerously, crossing busy College Avenue between University Avenue and Rollins Street.
The project came about after a 2009 study of the area, conducted by the University of Missouri, over the course of two days that showed 5,000 of the 7,500 pedestrian crossings were outside of crosswalks.
