One of my top goals as governor has been to try to change that and get more Missourians outdoors. It’s healthy for both mind and body, and it’s fun.
That’s why the First Lady and I issued our 100 Missouri Miles Challenge. We challenged all Missourians to join us in walking, running or biking at least 100 miles a year.
The results have been astounding. Residents register their miles at 100missourimiles.com, and more than 23,000 Missourians have racked up a total of more than 3.3 million miles.
We upped the ante this year with 100 Missouri Blue Miles, which challenges residents to paddle, float or row at least 100 miles on the state’s bounty of waterways.
Missouri’s diverse landscape – from rolling prairies to Ozark valleys and mountains – makes it perfect for outdoor adventure. We have 87 state parks and historic sites and each offers a different experience.
It’s no wonder that we have been named the best trails state and the best camping state. Missouri State Parks consistently are ranked with the nation’s best.
You own them, they’re free, come take a look around.
State parks have nearly 1,000 miles of groomed trails; you can hike one mile or 10 across glades, woodlands and river bluffs.
