Before the summer ends, city planners in Kansas City are set to begin a makeover that will slim down Leeds Trafficway in the city’s east side.

Until 1988, the four-lane trafficway served as the primary way to alleviate congestion from the General Motors factory.

Today, it’s a different story.

“People who drive this road for the most part use it as a relatively sedated throughway,” said Sean Demory, a Kansas City, Mo., Public Works spokesperson.

Planners have chosen the stretch of the four-lane trafficway between Stadium Drive and Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd to undergo the first so-called “road diet” in the city.
