Bicycle Friendly Communities workshop held in Springfield
The League of American Bicyclists has recently visited several Missouri communities to give training and encouragement for the Bicycle Friendly Communities program. The BikeLeague visited Springfield November 19th. David Hutchison of Springfield City Public Works sent this report:

Stephen Clark, with the League of American Bicyclists, was in Springfield November 19 to congratulate our community for receiving the bronze level "Bicycle Friendly Community" designations and give City leaders advice on how to reach the silver level.
A group of 21 people including citizen volunteer advocates, police officers, traffic engineers, planners, park representatives, health officials and others in positions to help expand Springfield's bicycling culture mounted their bicycles to tour part of Springfield's growing bikeway network.
The group reviewed the improvements in the bikeway network and culture over the last six years and opportunities to continue the momentum that has been developed. It was interesting to see how Springfield stacks up against other communities around the country.
We strongly encourage communities around Missouri to participate in both the Bicycle Friendly Communities program adn the Walk Friendly Communities program.

For businesses and colleges/universities, there are also the Bicycle Friendly Business and Bicycle Friendly Universities programs--both of which have good participation from Missouri now.
