Missouri State Parks has a "no turn-away" policy for bicyclists who arrive if the campground is full

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Did you know Missouri State Parks and Historic Sites don't turn away bicyclists & hikers from full campgrounds?

MoBikeFed comment: The policy isn't publicized, so you won't find it on the State Parks web site or in their written materials. But if you bike or hike to a campground and find it full, they will work with you to find a place.

Update, July 2020: Adventure Cycling Association contacted Missouri State Parks and received a copy of the policy. If you arrive by foot or bicycle at a State Park campground and the campground staff is not aware of the policy, it may be helpful to show them this so that they can consult their own copy of the relevant policies and confirm it.

Update, March 2021: Missouri State parks has provided us with a link to the Missouri State Parks web page with State Parks camping policies, including the no-turn-away policy for visitors who arrive by bicycle and others with limited mobility, including backpackers, bikepackers, bicycle tourers, etc.

The full text of the State Parks rule on this issue--which has been in place since 2001 or perhaps earlier--is:

Campers with Limited Mobility

Bicyclists, backpackers or others with limited ability to travel will be assured a camping space for the night of their arrival. Accommodations other than those available on a designated site may be arranged through the facility manager.
