Sunset Hills mayor speaks about being cleared of wrong doing in road rage incident | FOX2now.com

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Sunset Hills Mayor Mark Furrer is speaking out for the first time after all charges were dropped against him in connection with an alleged road rage incident involving a bicyclist.

Furrer says he's relived that all criminal and civil complaints against him regarding the incident have been dropped. He was accused of hitting Randy Murdick as he rode his bicycle in July of 2014 near Kennerly and Weber Hill Roads. The criminal case ended in a mistrial last year.

MoBikeFed comment: It is unfortunate that Furrer is given a platform to proclaim his innocence, when the St Louis County Prosecutor indicated there was evidence from several witnesses indicating that Furrer had indeed deliberately driven his vehicle into the cyclist.

And the testimony of witnesses is indeed damning:

St Louis Prosecutor Robert McCulloch said: "The testimony of the two independent witnesses was unassailable and made it abundantly clear that the defendant did, in fact, turn his vehicle into the victim causing physical injury to the victim and damage to his bike. . . . The charges against Furrer are well-founded by the independent witnesses, but the victim has no credibility so I couldn't put him back on the stand. The real tragedy is the embellishment."

Given the facts of the case, Mayor Furrer should be apologizing for his misjudgement, promising to do better in the future, and thanking police, prosecutors, and the court system for giving him a second chance when he so clearly did not deserve it.
