Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Locally, the goal is to make St. Joseph a bicycle friendly community by this fall, a designation created by the League of American Bicyclists, said Nancy Taylor, health educator with the St. Joseph health department.

"We are looking at it as a way to help make St. Joe healthier, a more livable place," Taylor said. "It can help with economic development and tourism as well as the obvious health factor, to just make St. Joe a better place."

The bicycle friendly community status is based on measures including community education, types of biking and public transit access, bicycle networks and programs implemented to encourage usage.

MoBikeFed comment: This article is an excellent summary of the reasons St. Joseph and other cities around Missouri are working to become bicycle friendly communities and improve the environment for bicycling in many ways.
