Natl Trails day: Rock Island Trail Sneak Preview June 6th in Windsor

Katy Trail/Rock Island Trail Sneak Preview

In celebration of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4, Missouri Rock Island Trail, Inc. (MORIT) and AARP Missouri are sponsoring a free bicycling event.

Ride the Katy Trail and see progress on the Rock Island Trail that will open later this year. Register at the Windsor, MO at the Katy Trail trailhead at 9:00 AM. Park at Windsor High School at 210 North St, Windsor, MO 65360. This event is free.

The Katy trailhead is just 150 yards from the Rock Island Trail so you can sneak a peek before riding to Clinton and back. The first 47 miles of the Rock Island Trail State Park will open in late 2016 and connect the 240 mile Katy Trail to Kansas City. The first 200 registrants will get a string backpack of swag from Missouri Rock Island Trail Inc. (MoRIT) and AARP. Once you are registered you have all day to explore the Katy Trail at your own pace.

Distances are 8 miles southwest to Calhoun, and another 9 miles further to Clinton. Clinton is known for having the largest town square in Missouri. If you want more than that 34 miles round trip ride you can pass back through Windsor and continue northeast on the Katy Trail. Green Ridge is 9 miles from Windsor and Sedalia is an additional 10 miles. Visit these communities and have lunch.
