MoBikeFed comment: Carthage is really taking the lead in Missouri--implementing a citywide bike plan that will leave the city with the most bike lanes & routes per capita of any city in Missouri, and now taking positive steps to encourage sidewalk upgrades and maintenance, which is an ongoing headache for many cities around the state.The Carthage City Council is considering a measure that would allow the city to reimburse property owners up to $3,000 — $3 per square foot — for replacing sidewalks in front of their homes with concrete walkways that comply with city building codes.
The council advanced the ordinance Tuesday night; it will go to a vote at the next meeting.
