MoBikeFed comment: This program is another way that Carthage is becoming a statewide leader in two basic but vital community services: walking and bicycling.A new program to reimburse residents to repair sidewalks in front of their homes or businesses is apparently a big hit, with several projects underway only two months after the city approved it.
Carthage Public Works Director Zeb Carney said he believed the city cut its first check to a property owner reimbursing that person for replacing a sidewalk on Monday, and as many as four or five other sidewalk projects are in the works.
"It's been a good deal, I've been really surprised," Carney told the Carthage City Council's Public Works Committee on Monday. "We got another phone call today, it may be someone on the Square who wants to do one. It's been received well by the public."
Earlier this year, Carthage implemented its citywide bicycle route system and became the Missouri city with the most bicycle lane-miles per capita:

The city's sidewalk reimbursement program should become a model for other Missouri communities to follow.
