MoBikeFed comment: On this page you can sign up for email status updates from Ameren about progress on the corridor as salvage work moves forward. The Rock Island Trail project will transform an inactive rail corridor into a beautiful bike path and nature trail. This rail corridor is rich in history, having been built between 1901 and 1905 by a predecessor to the Rock Island Railroad, and is eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The project is a collaborative effort between the Department of Natural Resources and Ameren Missouri. The trail will eventually connect with the KATY Trail, creating 457 miles of scenic beauty. When finished, it will reach from the KATY trail to Kansas City, traveling along the Rock Island Rail Line through Missouri towns like Pleasant Hill, Windsor, Owensville and Beaufort.
