Hannibal working on Bear Creek Trail extension

In December, the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department was given permission to purchase property suitable for a trail extension in the Sodalis Nature Preserve. In January, the Parks Department is beginning the process of pursuing the funds necessary to develop that area into a new public walkway. . . .

If successful in securing grant funding, the Parks & Recreation Department plans to extend the Bear Creek Trail through the Sodalis Nature Preserve to Patchen Street.

On Dec. 20 the City Council approved the purchase by the Parks and Recreation Department of real estate for the trail extension from Ronald Caldwell and the Ronnie L. Caldwell and Marilyn C. Webb Living Trust. Also OK'd that night was a recipient agreement between the Parks and Recreation Department and The Conservation Fund for $19,500. The money is being used to buy land that borders Bear Creek and the Sodalis Nature Preserve, and is located along St. John and South Arch streets.
