A Rolla firm is the low bidder on a sidewalk project on South Sam Houston Blvd. in Houston. . . .

The work is on the west side of the highway from Corner Express to Walmart Supercenter. Another section will run from West Highway 17 to a driveway in front of Rod's Auto and includes a pedestrian light for Highway 17. Rob Conaway, senior project manager with Archer-Elgin Engineering, Surveying and Architecture in Rolla, outlined the project during a short meeting that adjourned for a closed session.

MoBikeFed comment: Houston, like many towns across Missouri, is working to fill in sidewalk gaps that are far too prevalent on streets that were built throughout the 1900s.

Like many of these cities, Houston is using federal transportation dollars that are earmarked for walking, bicycling, and other transportation needs outside of motor vehicle transportation.
