MoBikeFed comment: The international Bicycle Mayors program could be an interesting way to approach bicycle advocacy in Missouri--particularly in our many medium-sized and smaller suburban and rural communities but in the larger cities, too. It emphasizes the power of one passionate individual to develop consensus in the community and create real change. If you think you might be interested in becoming a Bicycle Mayor in Missouri, contact us - director@mobikefed.orgThe Bicycle Mayor & Leader Program is a global initiative to accelerate the progress of cycling in cities and help get another one billion people onto bikes. Pretty simple… Bicycle Mayors are a catalyst to bring together the public and private realms to uncover the massive economic, health, and environmental benefits of increased cycling capacity. They are uncovering new ideas, working with others to deliver action and promoting innovations that support better cycling for all. In June 2016, the world’s first Bicycle Mayor was elected in Amsterdam. BYCS– which coordinates the program – is now working with local partners to set up Mayors in cities around the world. Meet our Bicycle Mayors, here. Will you join our global network? Contact inge@cyclespace.org Every city is different and therefore every Bicycle Mayor faces different challenges and has his own goals. Learn about these goals in the after-movie of the first Bicycle Mayor & Leader Summit.
