I wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity to participate in a free technical assistance program from Smart Growth America, a national organization that works to realize the vision of livable places, healthy people, and shared prosperity through strategic transportation and land use policies and practices.

As part of a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Smart Growth America will work with three jurisdictions in the state of Missouri through the Complete Streets Consortium Series. This Consortium Series will support the Missouri State Department of Health’s work on activity-friendly routes to everyday destinations, which make it safe and convenient for people of all abilities to walk, run, bike, skate, or use wheelchairs to reach homes, jobs, shops, and schools.

The Complete Streets Consortium Series uses interactive learning to assist communities in identifying and overcoming barriers to creating great places to walk, bike, and roll. This nine-month program will bring together engineers, planners, public health practitioners, community advocates, and related professionals across Missouri for three two-day in-person workshops with supplementary distance-learning modules. • Benefits of participating in the Consortium Series include:
• Building practical skills to bringing activity-friendly routes into their routine planning processes, project designs, performance measurements, and decision-making frameworks.
• Forming and strengthening partnerships across agencies and jurisdictions.
• Participating in learning sessions and interactive exercises on policy development, community engagement, communicating the benefits of activity-friendly routes, and more.
• Participating in on-the-ground site visits and case studies at each workshop.

A team of five to ten individuals from each selected jurisdiction will participate in the Consortium Series, including engineers, planners, public health practitioners, community advocates, and related professionals from multiple departments and partner organizations.

As part of the Consortium Series, each jurisdiction will receive up to $5,000 reimbursement to support travel to other cities within the state. Each jurisdiction will also host one of the three workshops, including securing meeting space and providing coffee and lunch for two days for 35 people.
