But while it lacks federal recognition, it has been developed, maintained, and used enough to qualify as a singular, recognized "trail." Clocking in at approximately 6,800 miles, it is the longest established trail in the United States and the first coast-to-coast hiking trail, linking America's Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
