Last of RAAM riders crossing Missouri today

The last of the Race Across America riders are making their way across Missouri Sunday, June 27th 2004.

The 4-man human-powered vehicle team ALS Lightning (which came close to breaking the record the same team set in 1989) and the 4-man teams Action Sports and Vail-Go Fast have already complete the race and arrived in Atlantic City. The Action Sports team set a new record in the 4-man relay category.

The leader in the solo category, Juré Robic, is expected to reach the finish line Monday morning, June 28th.

The Washington Missourian has an account of RAAM riders, including the ALS Lightning HPV team, crossing Missouri Friday:
The covered recum[bent] bicycle turned east onto Depot Street and hummed past the time station along with its support team.

The four-man team benefited from the bike's lightweight hood, which helped its aerodynamics. Almost as quickly as it appeared on Depot Street, it was gone for points north and east.

By 10:30 a.m. Friday morning, the team was east of Indianapolis, quickly headed toward Atlantic City at a rate of 24.18 miles per hour, better than the overall RAAM record of 24.02 mph.
