KC's Riverfront Heritage Trail to open July 2nd

The Kansas City newspaper Dos Mundos has an article on the official opening of the Riverfront Heritage Trail [official site | unoffical site] on July 2nd:
Kansas City’s Riverfront area, unlike other riverfront areas in major cities around the country, has remained undeveloped and idle. New interest and economic redevelopment in the downtown area has made this bike trail possible.

Mayor Kay Barnes’ interest in a downtown arena and redevelopment, along with the conversion of old buildings into loft communities, and a collaboration between planners and funding sources places the trail in the center of this urban rebirth.

The Riverfront Heritage Trail is a $35 million project that is the first of its kind in the Kansas City area. It will link the downtown business districts of both Kansas Cities, the River Market and the Richard L. Berkley Riverfront Park, the West Side, Quality Hill and Strawberry Hill neighborhoods. Public art and historical markers along the trail will create a journey exploring the early history of bi-state Kansas City. A regional scenic byway will draw cultural tourists to the trail as a destination in itself.
