Gas hits $2/gallon--time to replace some car trips with bicycling?

Gas hit $2 per gallon today in the Kansas City area. All indications are that the price of gas is going to stay high.

With perfect timing, beautiful spring weather has just arrived.

Does all this mean that we should think about replacing some of our automobile trips with walking, transit, or bicycling--or some combination of the three?

For example, Commuting by bicycle--or a combination of bicycle and transit--is not as hard as most people think . . .

Does it mean Missouri and Missouri cities should spend more time and effort encouraging, rather than discouraging walking and bicycling?
