The LAB's review of Springfield's application indicates that
[R]eviewers were most impressed with the ongoing commitment in the city to make improvements in the future. We were very impressed with the bike parking ordinance, the growth in the Safe Routes to School program and the development of a bicycle plan that outlines 110 miles of street with bike lanes or shared lane symbols allowing connectivity. The Frisco Highline Trail (after completion this summer) will be a jewel in southern Missouri that will be second in the state to only the Katy Trail. With an increase from the 2% of arterials streets with bike lanes, implementation of the current bike plan, and an expansion of the education, enforcement and encouragement programs, Springfield will earn Bicycle Friendly Community award designation. As far as MoBikeFed officers know, Springfield is the only community in Missouri to receive recognition in the LAB's program--so far!
