Missouri Bicycle Advocacy Day May 14th, 2007
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Tue, 04/24/2007 - 6:00am
Join us in Jefferson City on Monday, May 14th, 2007, with Springfield native John Howard (the "Babe Ruth of Bicycling") as we meet with legislators to ask them to help make a more bicycleable and walkable Missouri--OR plan to call/email your legislator in the lead-up to Advocacy Day.
The governor will present Howard to the legislature in a brief ceremony. Advocates visiting Jefferson City will be able to watch the ceremony in the General Assembly Chambers.
Then we will make personal visits to Missouri legislators and their staff in the capital. These personal visits are by far the most productive way for us to build support for bicycling and walking issues in Missouri.
We would very much like to have representatives of the main bicycle, pedestrian, running, and trails clubs in Missouri, and of the various regions within Missouri all represented in Jefferson City that day.
However, aside from any specific bill, our general message to all Missouri legislators and politicians will be:

- If you can attend Bicycle Advocacy Day in Jefferson City on May 14th, please email director@mobikefed.org for details.
- If you would like to help out by emailing/calling legislators on our near May 14th, we will send details via the MoBikeFed Announce email list and on MOBikeFed.org as the Advocacy Day draws closer.
However, aside from any specific bill, our general message to all Missouri legislators and politicians will be:
- Missourians walk and bicycle about half as much as the average American. This is impacting our health, safety, and pocketbook.
- Please help us solve this problem by working with us to create a street and trail network that is safe and accessible to all Missourians, including those who choose to walk, run, use transit, and bicycle.
- Help us celebrate bicycling in Missouri by supporting Bike Month, Bike to Work Week, and the upcoming Tour of Missouri.
