Children's Ride supports Put People on Paseo effort
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Sat, 10/11/2008 - 6:57am
Today the Missouri Bicycle Federation organized a children's ride in support of the effort to "Put People on Paseo".
The ride is part of an effort organized by Let's Go KC and supported by the Missouri Bicycle Federation and area bicycling, walking, running, and trails groups. The campaign is to raise funds from citizens in order to prod MoDOT and the cities involved to provide the first safe bicycle and pedestrian crossing of the Missouri River in the Kansas City area.
The Put People on Paseo campaign has already raised over $3000 in its first three days. (Make a pledge here.)
Today the kids showed that they will donate their pennies, nickels, dimes, and dollars to the campaign, too.
Later that day we took our "Put People on Paseo" cake on the road to the Kansas City Bicycle Club/Johnson County Bicycle Club joint picnic.
MoDOT has pledged 10 feet of deck space on the new Paseo Bridge for a safe, separated bicycling and walking path--if the path can be connected to the ground on both sides of the river. Now all that is needed is that last 1% of effort in this $245 million dollar project to make those connections to the ground happen.
Photo highlights are below. Complete event photos are here.
