The 10 worst and 10 best for bicycling and walking in Missouri in 2010--what do YOU think?
What are the ten best and ten worst things that have happened for bicycling and walking in Missouri in 2010?
We're compiling a list--and we want to know what YOU think. What has affected you, for better or for worse, in 2010?
Please leave your ideas and thoughts in the comments section through Wednesday, January 5th.
Just to get things started, here are some possibilities, in no particular order:
Best
- More than doubled the number of Complete Streets policies in Missouri (5 to 11 in one year).
- Bike/ped access on three major river bridges opens/under construction (2 in Kansas City, 1 in Jefferson City)
- Missouri Safe Routes to School Network established (over 100 organizations, agencies, individuals, working to make biking & walking to school a reality for more students).
- Problems at the St Louis Regional Bicycle Federation solved through a merger with Trailnet
- Work to extend Katy Trail on both the east & west sides.
- Proposal to ban bicycling on many major roads in St Charles County defeated.
- Anti-bicycle/pedestrian harassment ordinances pass in several cities
- MoDOT adopts new/improved pedestrian policies
- National Route 66 Bicycle Route announced; passes through Missouri from St Louis to Joplin
- Springfield & Lee's Summit receive Bicycle Friendly Community recognition; many new Bicycle Friendly Businesses in Missouri (details)

- Tour of Missouri cancelled
- Difficulties at the St Louis Regional Bicycle Federation
- No justice for pedestrian killed by school bus in St Joseph
- Pedestrian killed by extreme reckless driving in Springfield
- Federal Transportation bill held up by politics, again--reauthorization should have passed in 2009 and serious work hasn't even started.
- MoDOT still facing funding crisis, no solution in sight
- Police brush off hit-and-run of bicyclist in Warrensburg
- ?
