MoBikeFed seeks BikeMO St. Louis ride organizer - $500 stipend
Do you like to organize things? Would you like to become a vital part of a bicycle ride that brings people together from all around the St. Louis region and the state? Would you like to work with a great group of volunteers, committee members, and staff from around the state? Would you like to help MoBikeFed carry out its mission and have a lot of fun in the process?
And would you like to make $500 while doing all that?
Then we need you--to chair BikeMO St. Louis - the Dutchtown Classic Community Bike Ride in St. Louis, May 13th, 2012.We are offering a $500 stipend to the organizer, plus travel and other expenses.
This is the first annual BikeMO St. Louis, so we are starting a new event this year. But it is positioned well to become very successful--it is part of the Tour de Grove Dutchtown Classic, and weekend of bike racing that draws thousands of spectators to its ancillary events. And we have an experienced team of board and committee members who have worked on events like this in the past, as well and access to an excellent volunteer base who have helped us out with previous events.
Your job:
- Lead periodic teleconferences and/or in person committee meetings between now & May 13th (ride day)
- Communicate with committee members (via email and/or phone) about their jobs and remind them of deadlines
- Help/organize planning and creation of ride routes
- Help market the event and organize marketing of the event prior to ride-day
- Organize and coordinate logistics for the ride--sag stops, food, water, sag drivers, volunteers, etc.
- Help organize route marking and/or help mark the route in the couple of days before May 13th
- Be in the South St. Louis the day of the event to help help organize and run the event, and before the event as needed to set up and prepare
Other important points:
- You could conceivably do this from anywhere within the state of Missouri, but it will be a big advantage if you are located in the St. Louis area and have contacts and resources in the area close the the event.
- We estimate that you will put about 40-60 hours into this job between now and May 13th.
- We have ride organization manuals and copious notes from other similar events we have done to help in planning and organizing this event.
- The ride is held Sunday, May 15th, 2012; our goal is to attract 500 bicyclists to participate in the event this year.
- Our goal is to make this an ongoing annual event and grow it into a major event and fund raiser for MoBikeFed. If the first year is successful there is the possibility of increasing the stipend in future years.
To apply for this position, submit the following materials by end of day Monday, March 26th, 2012:
