After a couple months of fundraising, planning and discussing a project to place a sidewalk along U.S. 54 through El Dorado Springs, the community and city project is a reality.

The total project, which is a sidewalk spanning from Woods Supermarket to McDonald’s, is estimated at $312,500. Eighty percent of the funds will be paid by a Missouri Department of Transportation enhancement grant, which the city qualified for earlier this month.

The remaining 20 percent needed to come from somewhere. The city did not have all the funds to do it on their own, if it was to take on the project, so the council and El Dorado Springs Chamber of Commerce agreed to split the remaining 20 percent.

For the Sidewalk to the Future, the community and city each needed to contribute $31,250. The community raised its part just before the set deadline Saturday, Jan. 31.
