McDavid hopes his task force improves pedestrian safety through education and stricter enforcement of traffic laws. Four pedestrians have been killed and 4 others have been seriously injured in 7 separate Columbia crashes since October. Pedestrians were recently hurt in accidents on high traffic Columbia streets including Range Line Street, Stadium Boulevard, Providence Road and College Avenue. McDavid said his task force will help prevent future pedestrian accidents.

McDavid said, “Frankly, if you say we need to write more tickets for jaywalking, that kind of trivializes the intent of what we are after. We are looking for a broader range of things. I’m looking for a very evidence based analysis of what is going on.”
