An economic impact study by Missouri State Parks shows that the Katy Trail is used by about 400,000 people annually and brings $18.5 million in economic impact to the state.

That's a pretty good return on investment: The Katy Trail cost $6 million to build originally and a small fraction of that in maintenance and upkeep each year.
