Efforts to restore a railroad bridge at Boonville and make it part of the cross-state Katy Trail mark a milestone on Saturday when visitors can cross the Missouri River on it for the first time.

Completion of a 12-year effort by the Katy Bridge Coalition and others will provide a concrete walkway for visitors with railings that extend 250 feet over the river on the Boonville side.

The city of Boonville has planned a ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. to mark the occasion.

"I think people are really excited," said Kate Fjell, the assistant city administrator in Boonville. "Most of the people who have seen it can’t wait to get on it."
