Birthday milestones can be accompanied by mixed emotions. Introspective reflection, gratitude and sometimes even dread can occupy the thoughts of those staring down a big birthday.

When Ann Leach, a Joplin life coach and grief counselor, turned to the members of her Young Professionals Network for advice on how to get the most from her 60th birthday, they offered up the challenge of a lifetime.

The YPN group Leach coaches suggested she look to her childhood for the challenge — riding a bike.

It was agreed Leach would cycle 60 miles every month in her 60th year.
