Workers began construction this week on a $246,000 sidewalk project in Holts Summit, said Mark Tate, director of streets and parking.

Work is being done along the west side of Summit Drive, from State Route OO to Mars Street. The city received an 80 percent grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the Missouri Department of Transportation to help pay for the project, Tate said.

"We look forward to the completion of this next phase of sidewalk construction, which will connect many of our citizens to the pedestrian routes we have developed in recent years," Tate said. "The need for this stretch of sidewalk is crucial to get the pedestrians off the shoulder of North Summit Drive and onto a safer ADA route."

MoBikeFed comment: Just a few year ago, Holts Summit had practically no sidewalks at all. The city has made some real progress in recent years, as this current project shows.
