Bicycle & Pedestrian Day at the Capitol April 10th - Join us!
Bicycle & Pedestrian Day at the Capitol in Jefferson City is April 10th--coming up soon.
This year we have a new governor, new administration, and many new legislators who need to be educated about the importance of bicycling, walking, and trails to Missouri. Your personal visits at Capitol Day are by far the best way to do this.
We and our partners across Missouri are working on many important legislative issues this year, including:
- Several bills that will impact the future of the Rock Island Trail
- Will Missouri state transportation funding include bicycling, walking, and trails along with other transportation modes?
- Distracted driving & texting while driving
- More
Thankfully we haven't had any bills in 2017 allowing ATVs on the Katy Trail, requiring bicyclists to carry 15 foot tall flags, banning bicyclists from various Missouri roads, and other such bad news bills we have seen over the past several years.
But we all know that such bills are always just a step away from being introduced, and it is your outreach and personal contact to your elected representatives that keeps these bad bills at bay - and helps us generate support for positive bills.
Bring a display
Your organization, group, or business can bring a display. It helps make Capitol Day more fun and helps educate our leaders, legislators, and staff about the diversity and breadth of bicycling, walking, trails, and outdoor recreation users across Missouri.
Help! Volunteers needed . . .
It takes many great volunteers to make Capitol Day a success.
Help run the registration table, deliver legislative packets, take photos, help support the annual Legislators Bicycle Ride. Volunteering is easy and fun--and you can take time to participate in Capitol Day activities and visit your own legislators alongside your volunteer work.
