MoDOT announced a
The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission (MHTC) announced the selection of the Interstate 70 Cave Springs to Fairgrounds (CSFG) Design-Build Project to Millstone Weber LLC during its monthly meeting in Jefferson City today. . . .
Project details include:
- maintaining the existing two-way outer road system between Cave Springs and Fairgrounds
- building a new two-way north outer road between Zumbehl and Route 94/First Capitol Drive
- building a new one-way north outer road from Fairgrounds to Route 94
- constructing new interchanges at Cave Springs Road and Zumbehl Road in a Single-Point Urban Interchange (SPUI) design to address safety and congestion
- adding a 10-foot-wide shared use path for pedestrians on both new interchanges
This project allows for potential future expansion of Interstate 70, which currently remains unfunded.
This Design-Build project is a partnership with St. Charles County, who has contributed $10 million of the $62 million cost of the reconstruction. . . .
This section of I-70 was built in the 1950s and 1960s, making it one of the oldest sections of interstate in the country and one of the busiest in Missouri.

More details about the bike/ped path design are in the summary of the design for the project.
Kudos to MoDOT and St Louis District MoDOT staff for recognizing the need for bicycle/pedestrian connectivity in this area and developing a feasible plan.
Kudos also to St Charles City staff and Trailnet for developing a bicycle/pedestrian plan for St Charles City that envisions this type of bike/ped connectivity. In the map below, the two improved intersections are highlighted. Most bike/ped routes shown on the map are planned, but since the plan was adopted in 2016, the city has made steady progress in building these connections:

One that map, you can see the importance of bike/ped connectivity through those interchanges for creating connectivity between the two halves of St Charles City, and also for creating better connectivity to the Katy Trail and other trails along both sides of the Missouri River.
Working to improve access for people who bicycle, walk, and hike is one way MoBikeFed helps fulfill our Vision for Bicycling and Walking Missouri. Helping spread the word about positive steps by MoDOT, cities, counties, and advocacy organizations around Missouri in improving statewide bicycle and pedestrian safety and connectivity is one way we help promote and improve that access.
Your membership and generous financial support helps turn our Vision into reality.
