Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) held a ceremony Tuesday morning to announce the groundbreaking of a major project along Route 100, also known as Manchester Road.

The ceremony was held at 9 a.m. Tuesday morning near downtown St. Louis, on Chouteau at Ninth Street, across from the Purina building. The new project will run from the location along Manchester Road to the city limits of Maplewood, aiming to improve safety, resurface the roadway, and include the addition of protected bike lanes.

MODOT has stated that this will be the first project on a state-maintained route to include protected bike lanes. The bike lanes will connect to existing cycle tracks established by the City of St. Louis.
