Speeding in school zones injures 17,000 every year

MoBikeFed's legislation proposed in the Missouri General Assembly this year includes provisions to create standardized 20 MPH speed limits in Missouri school zones and encourage local communties to implement "Fines Doubled in School Zones" policies.

Columbia's KOMU recently had a story on the issue:
It isn't unusual to see someone speed through a school zone. The consequences and the numbers are staggering. People who don't follow school zone rules cause 200 deaths and close to 17,000 injuries to children every year in the United States. That's almost one child dying every school day. Right here in mid-Missouri, drivers are no exception because they too ignore school zones.
