Missouri Trails Summit, Nov 2-4, 2006, in Kansas City

Trails in Missouri are being celebrated next week in the 3rd annual Missouri Trails Summit.

Look for presentations by MoBikeFed Executive Director Brent Hugh, Kansas City Councilman John Fairfield about creating a bike/ped crossing over the Missouri River, about KC's Riverfront Heritage Trail, levee trails, Safe Routes to School, EarthRider's President Michael Gier talking about mountain biking trails, Caryn Giarratano talking about Missouri's new strategic plan for bicycle & pedestrian accommodation, the tour of the Indian Creek Trail, an urban bike ride, trailbuilding school, wilderness run, promoting tourism/birdwatching on trails, and much more.

The Missouri Parks and Recreation Association (MPRA) along with Missouri Department of Conservation, Department of Natural Resources and the Kansas City Missouri Parks, Recreation and Boulevards will be hosting the largest conference in the state on November 2 -4 specifically devoted to trails, the Missouri Trail Summit (MTS).

MTS serves as a statewide forum to promote trail development, advocacy and use in Missouri.

The theme of this year's Summit is "Getting Connected," which will illustrate and demonstrate the multiple opportunities, available for various park professionals, municipal staff and representatives, planners, trail advocates and trail users as well as community members, to work together to ensure that our trails are developed and utilized.

During the Summit, there will be opportunities for learning the basics of trail design and building as well as tours of the historic Santa Fe Trail locations, Indian Creek Bike-Hike Trail, and the Missouri Riverfront Trail in Platte County.

In addition, there will be a keynote speaker featuring Pam Underhill with the National Park Service, an exhibit hall filled with knowledgeable and trained trail partners to assist you with your questions, Trail Mix Social and Dan McGuiness who is the director from the Mississippi River Campaign-Audubon Society to discuss birders and birder trails.

Due to the generous donations of our sponsors, registration for the entire conference is only $135 for MPRA members and $140 for non members. Daily conference rates, individual events and meals can be purchased separately at a lower rate.
