St. Joseph parkway a little nearer to complete

According to the St Joseph News-Press:
Local bike riders are half a mile closer to the day when they can travel from one end of St. Joseph’s Parkway System to the other without hopping off the trail.

The St. Joseph City Council unanimously approved a contract to construct a section of the Hike & Bike Trail along Maple Leaf Parkway between 11th and 18th streets on Monday. Wales Contracting Inc. will construct the $185,000 project, which will cost the city about $55,000 thanks to a federal grant that covers 70 percent of the costs.

The project remains in the design stages, with construction expected to begin in fall or winter of 2010, according to city Public Works Director Bruce Woody.
