State roundup: Rolla bike route, Longview trail, St Joseph trail, KC river bridge
Bicycle news roundup;
- Key bicycle route between Rolla & St James to get 'share the road' signs:
“This stretch of road is highly used by cyclists between Rolla and St. James,” said Dick Elgin, Multisport Club member. “The signs are a reminder that we use the road, too.” - Longview Lake Trail to be rebuilt/repaved:
One of the most popular trails in the Kansas City metro area, the Longview Lake Trail, has crumbling and rutted asphalt along nearly its entire length. A new project will rebuild and repave the trail: "the trail will be redone in limestone aggregate and concrete under a $444,607 contract." - St Joseph Riverfront Trail extended:
An extension to the Riverfront Trail could send a stream of walkers and joggers flowing between two city attractions.
The council unanimously passed an ordinance Monday to accept the final easement needed to extend the trail north from the Remington Nature Center parking lot to Heritage Park.The new section will add roughly 4,600 feet — or 7/8 of a mile — of walking and running trail along the Missouri River levee. The trail will run directly on top of the levee, between the river to the west and the casino to the east.
- Key Kansas City river bridge to get bicycle/pedestrian access; groundbreaking Wednesday:
