Tour of Missouri 2010 would have been held this week

The 2010 Tour of Missouri would have been happening this week--had it not been cancelled by Governor Nixon and the Division of Tourism.
John Wieneman sent this letter to the editor about the situation:
Dear Editor:
In the United States, flags are flown at half staff to mark the death of government officials, including members of Congress, as well as on certain holidays, or upon proclamation by the President or Governor due a tragic event. I doubt that Governor Nixon will proclaim the demise of the Tour of Missouri as a tragic event, but as a former TOM volunteer in Jefferson City, I feel an emptiness already. But my feelings pale in comparison to those of state and local merchants who are the real losers; say to the tune of $30 million dollars. As we approach the dates when the tour would visit our state, I simply say Rest in Peace Tour of Missouri, you served us well.John WienemanJefferson City, MODear Editor: In the United States, flags are flown at half staff to mark the death of government officials, including members of Congress, as well as on certain holidays, or upon proclamation by the President or Governor due a tragic event.
