Bike/Ped Construction in 2011--Roundup of plans for the Kansas City area

KCBike.info has a nice summary of construction on bicycle and pedestrian facilities planned for 2011 around the Kansas City region:

While 2010 saw a lot of progress with the completion of big projects like the Heart of America and Chouteau Bridges, 2011 promises to continue the momentum with everything from urban bike lanes to new singletrack to more suburban trails.

Even though most of the action will be in Missouri, Johnson County plans a few incremental expansions of its already extensive bikeway system and KCK is laying the groundwork for future bike routes.  Continue reading for a listing of all projects coming up in 2011, and bookmark our Construction Tracker map to stay up date on bike land trail construction throughout the year.

Areas planned for construction or design during 2011 include:

Armour and Benton Boulevard Bike Routes, Cleaver Boulevard, Riverfront Heritage Trail, Brush Creek Trail, Penn Drive, Van Brunt Trail, Wyandotte County Green Corridor, Swope/Blue Mountain Bike Connector, Bike KC network, 87th Street Bike Lanes, Trolley Track Trail/Indian Creek Trail, Indian Creek Trail, Bannister/I-435 Bridge, Little Blue Trace, Route 150 Trail, NW Barry Road bike lanes, North Brighton bike lanes, Line Creek Trail, Route 152 Trail, Maple Woods Trail, Parkville Route 9 Trail, Chouteau Parkway, Little Blue Trace, Independence Waterfall Park Connector, Little Blue Parkway Trail, R. West and Southwest
Johnson County already enjoy’s the metro area’s most extensive trail network, so 2011will be about incremental expansion to bring the system closer to more residents and destinations.

Rock Creek Trail. The City of Mission is finishing up a missing piece of trail between Woodsen and Nall, completing the city’s main east/west trail.  2011: Construction and completion.

Clear Creek Trail in Shawnee, from Woodland to Mill Creek Streamway, was just funded in 2011 and could be designed and constructed by 2013. It will connect northwestern Shawnee neighborhoods with Mill Valley High School and the Mill Creek Streamway trail. 2011: Design.

Turkey Creek Trail in northern Overland Park. Funding was recently secured for OP’s little slice of the Turkey Creek corridor in the far northern tip of the city. The trail will run between Metcalf and Antioch, and use the Antioch bridge to cross over I-35 and the BNSF railroad to connect up to Merriam Drive. 2011: Design.

Nall Avenue in Mission. In 2011 the road will be reconfigured with a sidepath trail between Martway and 67th Streets, connecting with the new east-west trail along Rock Creek. 2011: Construction.

143rd Street in Overland Park.
