Hannibal woman takes up bicycle commuting--what she has learned
Inspired by her sister, who bike commutes to work every day, Deanne St. John of Hannibal has recently taken up bicycle commuting. The Hannibal Courier-Post recently ran her story:
I’ve recently taken up riding my bike to work. And while I’m only a week into it, I have learned quite a bit.
I’ve seen a lot more of Hannibal in the last few days than I have the past few years I’ve lived here. I’ve begun to notice buildings and houses that I didn’t know existed, even though I travel these streets on a daily basis.
I get the opportunity to see beautiful flowers in gardens, lawn decorations and for sale signs that otherwise, might be missed while driving a car.
In the evenings I’ve seen all sorts of people, each on his or her way to ... somewhere. Many people sit on their front porches, talking on cell phones or just taking in the night air.
