Cyclists with disabilities ride FREE at Queen City Century June 15th - and ALL 2019 MoBikeFed rides
NEW for the 2019 Queen City Century: Cyclists with disabilities and companions–ie, tandem captains riding with a visually impaired stoker, or generally anyone riding with or assisting a rider with a disability–ride the Queen City Century FREE.
That includes any cyclist with a disability or, for example, veterans with a disability who want to participate in the Queen City Century.
Inspired by Cycle St. Louis - working to encourage and help more people with disabilities bicycle
We were inspired by the work of Cycle St. Louis, who have been doing amazing working to encourage and enable more people with disabilities to be able to cycle in St. Louis-area bicycle events.
Cycle St. Louis partnered with Trailnet to make all Trailnet rides this year more accessible to people with disabilities, and to provide free registrations for riders with a disability and companions.
After talking with Cycle St. Louis about their amazing program, and the need for this type of program all across Missouri and the U.S., we thought–why not take the free registration program statewide?
Bicycling is fun and healthful for people with disabilities - as it is for everyone. But people with disabilities face special hurdles participating in group activities, especially groups rides with admission fees or donations - especially because many people with disabilities are on very limited or fixed incomes, making the ride fees or donations impossible to afford.
The "Cyclist with a disability & companion ride free" program is designed to cut through all of those difficulties and make participating in group rides more accessible to everyone.
Cyclists with disabilities registration applies to all MoBikeFed bicycle rides from 2019 forward
The “free ride for cyclist with disabilities and companion” policy applies to ALL Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation rides and events starting this year.
If you are a cyclist with a disability who wants to ride the Queen City Century this year, just register as usual but choose the “cyclist with a disability or companion” registration option, which will give you free ride registration.
We encourage all other event organizers and promoters to consider a similar policy.
Encouraging more Missourians to walk and bicycle more often, and helping to break down barriers that prevent more Missourians from enjoying bicycling, is one of the primary goals in our Vision for Bicycling and Walking in Missouri. Helping people of all levels of ability bicycle, walk, and enjoy trails more often is one important way we reach that goal.
Your ongoing membership and generous financial support help turn our Vision into reality!
