Bicycle and Pedestrian Holidays Bill passes key Missouri House committee

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Holidays Bill, SB 180 sponsored by Senator Will Kraus of Lee's Summit, and handled by Representative Noel Torpey, also of Lee's Summit, has passed a vote of the Missouri House Tourism and Natural Resources Committee.

Next step is the House Rules Committee and then a vote on the floor of the full House.

A bit of bad news--committee members amended text creating three other holidays onto the bill.  That means that after the bill is passed by the House, it will have to return to the Senate for a final vote--increasing the chances we'll run out of time this legislative session before the bill is finally passed and truly agreed.

The bill officially adds Bicycle Month (May), Bike to Work Week, Bike to Work Day as well as Walk and Bicycle to School Month, Week, and Day (October) to Missouri's Holiday Calendar.

This is another good result of Bicycle & Pedestrian Day at the Capitol and the Ride with Legislators this week.  Those Capitol visits really motive legislative leaders--as well as our own sponsors--to keep the legislation we are interested in moving forward.
