Today the Chair of the US House Transportation Committee shared his vision for the future of federal transportation funding, and it does not include dedicated bicycle and pedestrian money that has been crucial for hundreds of projects that help the economy across Missouri.

We need your help today to let Congress know that there is strong support for investing in bicycling and walking.

Over the last 15 years more than 500 Missouri projects have been made possible by federal transportation funds, including:
  • City of Monett Greenway
  • Jordan Creek Greenway in Springfield
  • Page Avenue Trail over the Missouri River in St. Louis
  • Heart of America Trail over the Missouri River in Kansas City
  • St. Joseph Parkway Trails
  • Mississippi River Walk in Cape Girardeau
  • Riverfront Trails in St. Louis and Kansas City
  • Tens of millions of dollars for sidewalks  in towns all across Missouri

All of these projects are partnerships between local, state, and federal agencies. $45 million in local dollars have been leveraged with over $120 million in federal funds. Go to mobikefed.org/enhancements to learn more about local Missouri projects receiving federal funding.

Investing in bicycling and walking in an investment in Missouri.

Hard data shows that investments in bicycling and walking projects have a higher return on investment and generate more jobs per dollar than road and highway projects. In these challenging economic times, now is precisely the wrong time to cut these investments that put Missourians to work.

We need transportation dollars to come our area and we need you to speak up now for Missouri.

We especially need people in Northwest and Southwest Missouri to respond to this alert. Congressmen Sam Graves and Billy Long serve on the House Transportation Committee and will be key votes on this issue.  Please forward this to all of the cyclists and pedestrians you know Springfield, Branson, Joplin, northern Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Maryville, etc.
