Just in time for Capitol Day: Complete Streets, Bike/Ped Holidays move forward in Missouri General Assembly

Just in time for Capitol Day 2011, two key legislative items are moving forward in the Missouri General Assembly:

Rep. Sally Faith
Rep. Sally Faith

Complete Streets Resolution - Rep. Sally Faith, sponsor

The Complete Streets Resolution received a "Do Pass" recommendation from the House Rules Committee today.

Its next stop is the House Floor for a vote of the full House.

Rep. Sally Faith, the Resolution's sponsor, recently won election as Mayor of St. Charles.  Congratulations to Rep. Faith--but we'll miss her in the House!

We are working to make sure the Resolution moves forward before Rep. Faith leaves the House of Represenatives later this month.

Bicycle & Pedestrian Holidays Bill - Senator Will Kraus & Rep. Noel Torpey, sponsors

Senator Will Kraus
Senator Will Kraus

The bill declaring Bike Month, Bike Week, and Bike to Work Day as well as Walk to School Day, Week, and Month as official parts of Missouri's State Holiday Calendar took an important step today as it was heard in the House Tourism & Natural Resources Committee.

Senator Kraus introduced the bill and James Farrell testified in favor of the bill on behalf of the Missouri Bicycle & Pedestrian Federation.

The bill had no opposition during the hearing. We expect it to move forward out of the committee soon--the main difficulty will be finding a place for it on the House calendar before the session is over.

You can help speed the bill on its way by writing a note of support to members of the Tourism and natural Resources Committee--particularly the chair, Rep. Don Ruzicka of Mount Vernon.

The bill is SB 180 and the message is as simple as, "Please support SB 180" along with a couple of sentences about why bicycling, walking, running, and/or trails is important to you.
